o2 Architecture and CMG Landscape Architects created several discrete yet interconnected courtyard areas. O'Donnell states "we included: a 2-acre Operations Yard for estate management, a 4-acre Administration Campus with Office and Archive Buildings, both with, intimate outdoor spaces for outdoor gatherings, and a unique engineered wetland which serves as an ecological wastewater treatment system supporting Sunnylands' sustainability goals."

o2 Architecture focused on a palette of authentic and durable materials in order to give the home a robustness contrasted by graceful finishes. The preserved landscape provided the finished design with an immediate nature feel not often experienced in a newly constructed home.
